Internet Surfing and Online Safety: A Teenager’s Guide
By: Abhay/Apurva

The internet has revolutionized how we access information and connect with the world. As computer science students, we understand its immense potential. However, this powerful tool also presents risks, especially for teenagers. Navigating the online world requires caution and awareness. Therefore, it’s crucial to adopt safe internet practices.

One of the most important rules is to never disclose personal information. Avoid sharing your name, address, phone number, school, or any details that could identify you. Think twice before posting anything – once online, it can be difficult to remove.

Secondly, Meeting online acquaintances in person is extremely risky. No matter how friendly someone seems, don’t agree to meet them without first discussing it with your parents or a trusted adult. Online identities can be deceptive.

Never send your picture or any personal documents to anyone you meet online. These can be misused or shared without your consent. Remember, what goes online stays online. Protect your privacy.

Furthermore, Your password is your digital key. Don’t share it with anyone, even your closest friends. Regularly update your passwords and choose strong, unique ones. Be wary of phishing attempts – these are tricks used to steal your login information.

By following these guidelines, we can harness the power of the internet while staying safe. Remember, online safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s make the digital world a secure and positive space.
