Qualities of an ideal student
By: Rahul

The word ‘ideal’ means a person or a thing regarded as perfect and student means a person who is studying at school, college or university. So, an ideal student to put it simply means a perfect student. He is the one who is all round the best and an admirable student. He lives in accordance with the rules of conduct and discipline. He follows the principle of simple living and high thinking.

The qualities of ideal student are manifold. He is the one who is fully aware (conscious) of his duties and responsibilities. As we all know that the word 'student' is closely related to educational institutions, so the basic purpose of a student is to study. An ideal student also very dedicated to his/ her studies but not a bookworm. He gives an equal importance to everything. Everything is equally important for him. He takes an active interest in games and sports believing in the saying that work while you work and play while you play that is way to be happy. Besides this, he also gives his  active participation in all extra-  curricular activities in the school.

He is an early riser and a healthy man. He is punctual and obedient in everything. He is a true friend and true friends are rare in this world. He helps his friends in need and so he is a friend in deed. He is not only a true friend but also a selfless or selfish worker. He acts as helping hand to his fellows. Besides this, he never quarrels with anybody. He does nothing that gives him bad name and fame. Thus, he is a model before students. He also understands his duties towards society and takes an active interest in social activities.

These qualities ensure a bright future of a student. So, every student must try (it is the duty of every student) to inculcate all these qualities in themselves and move ahead on the path of success. If they have strong determination and will power, they will certainly be an ideal before others.

 Q. You recently read a newspaper report saying children are getting addicted to social media like the 'Facebook'. Subject: Social Media addiction among Children.

Sir,

Through one of the columns of your esteemed newspaper I want to express my concern over the issue of increasing social media among children. (I want to highlight the problem of excessive use of social media among children.)

Social media, no doubt, has many advantages. It connects children with their friends and creates a connection and belonging among them. It enhances their knowledge, develops skills and make them creative. They go on uploading their pics (posts) and making new friends.

Consequently, children have started spending more time in social media. It has affected their health adversely. They have become a victim of cyber bullying and damaging their online reputation. It distracts them from their studies. (It has negative effect on children's homework.) Their eyesight get weak. They have become obsessed. Also, They waste their precious time in counting their likes on their post (pics) and chatting with friends.

Thus, it is the duty of parents to check (ensure) that their children do not develop social media addiction. They should be regularly checked that they do not misuse it instead they will use it carefully and judicially. It is very useful but may prove to be equally harmful. They should encourage them to take interest in outdoor activities and limit their access to their social media.

I hope you will publish my letter in your esteemed newspaper so as to make children and their parents aware about ill effects of using excessive social media.

Yours Truly
XYZ

Debate opposing the motion 'There Should Be No Uniform In Schools'.

 Q. Write a speech opposing the motion 'There Should Be No Uniform In Schools'.

There Should Be No Uniform In Schools.
Respected chairperson, Members of the Jury and My worthy opponents.

I am XYZ and I stand (before you to express my views against the motion) here before you to oppose the motion "There Should Be No Uniform In Schools".

My first argument is that students (children) look smart in crisp shirt, well ironed trousers, polished shoes, ties, belts and blazers with school crest (school logo).

Secondly, It creates (promotes) healthy learning environment (atmosphere) in schools by encouraging disciplined learning as student respond with better behaviour. So, It can be said that schools with uniforms generally have better educational results. It (Uniform) considers a norm that everyone in school is equal rich, poor, handicap etc. All the students have to wear uniform irrespective (uniform without reference to, without giving attention to) of any difference. Thus, it creates a sense of equality among students by diminishing social and economic barriers among them and maintains a standard. The question of discrimination also not arises.

Moving further, I am in favour of uniforms in school is that it gives (it offers) practical benefits when students are on the school trips. Staff can quickly spot (can easily identify) all the students from their school especially at public places and in times of emergency without any trouble and making sure no one get losts.

My next argument is that students don't have to waste time in thinking what to wear at the start of each school day. Uniform is cheaper than fashionable clothes. So, it helps the students to resists (refuse) (go against) the peer pressure to buy trendy clothes. It also creates (instils) a  sense of belonging, pride, responsibility and unity among the students.

The main (biggest) advantage of uniform should be there in schools is that it prepare students for life after education when they will be expected to dress smartly as many companies and offices require employees to wear uniforms.

Thus, it is wrong to say that there should be no uniform in schools.

There should be no uniform in schools.
