The increasing number of students appearing for senior secondary examinations each year has intensified competition for limited college seats, leading to disappointment among many. Despite achieving high percentages, some students are unable to secure admissions in their desired colleges or courses.

Several factors contribute to this issue. The limited number of seats available in colleges and universities cannot keep pace with the rising demand for higher education. As the number of students increases, it becomes increasingly difficult for educational institutions to accommodate all applicants.

Furthermore, students may not be aware of all the available professions or alternatives related to their field of interest. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of online and distance learning programs, offering students more options to pursue their education. By increasing awareness of these alternatives, students can explore broader possibilities and potentially overcome the challenges of limited college seats.

Another contributing factor is the influence of political pressure on college authorities. In some cases, politicians may intervene to secure admissions for their acquaintances or constituents, further limiting the availability of seats for deserving students.

To address this problem, a merit-based admission system should be implemented, eliminating the influence of reservations or political pressure. Additionally, conducting entrance examinations for various courses can ensure that the most qualified students gain admission smoothly. By prioritizing merit and providing students with comprehensive information about available options, the challenges associated with limited college seats can be mitigated.
