It is a matter of concern that our neighborhoods are full of dirt and garbage (rubbish) that it stinks the whole environment of the locality. Wrappers, paper, polythene bags, household waste are scattered on the roads and along our houses. The city also is be becoming dirty with each passing day. It has become a hazard.

'Cleanliness is next to godliness'. Cleanliness to put it simply, means the state of being clean or keeping things clean. Cleanliness at home or in the neighborhood is very important for our overall well being. Keeping homes and neighbourhood clean stops the spread of germs, which keeps us healthy. Regular cleaning of carpets, kitchen and bathroom will kill germs thereby reducing the possibilities of getting sick. This also prevents us from being exposed to bacteria and allergies and other breathing problems. It minimizes the entry of rats, cockroaches, ants and other insects in our surrondings. It is considered as an essential quality required to live a healthy life. It improves the quality of indoor air at our surroundings.

Moreover, cleanliness changes the look of our surroundings. A neat and clean (spic and span) home or a neighborhood is attractive to all. Regular cleaning of home is very helpful in keeping us organised. Cleanliness creates the goodwill of the residents residing at home or in the neighborhood. It gives happiness and spreads joy in the family and in the neighborhood.

We need to ensure cleanliness at homes and in the neighborhood. We should follow the 3Rs of the waste management i.e reduce, reuse and recycle. People should be made aware of the harmful effects of garbage. They should be teach environmental friendly methods of disposing waste. These steps will certainly help in maintaining cleanliness in vicinity (near area). It is the duty of each and every one to keep his home and neighborhood neat and clean.

IMPORTANCE OF CLEAN SURROUNDINGS BY: RAJ
Or
Need of Promoting Cleanliness in the surrounding areas

Now a days, Keeping the surroundings clean has become a big issue. We keep our homes neat and clean then why not public places. We only remember to clean our homes but why we don't remember to clean our country, which is our main home. People makes the public places dirty in many ways which includes not using dustbins, spitting anywhere on roads, throwing papers, plastic, wrappers on roads. (We keep our homes spick and span but don't care for cleanliness at public places.)

The growing garbage and filth have vitiated, (spoil, harmed, degraded) the atmosphere. It has become the major source of pollution such as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution. Burning of wastes releases harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide which affects our environment. Waste emerges from the factories are dumped into the rivers affects the marine life and thereby affects humans. Household waste such as waste from kitchen is the greatest source of soil pollution which affects many soil organisms too. Moreover, It spreads malaria, dengue, cholera, diarrhoea and various respiratory disorders. It also becomes hazard for animals.

In order to protect ourselves from various ailments and viruses, It is imperative to keep the surroundings spic and span. This gives rise to a good character. Clean surroundings have become an indication of one's lifestyle and prevents illness and sickness. It is considered as the best place for overall growth and development. It helps us to stay active all the day and enhances our productivity. It creates a good impression on others. Environment of the area becomes fresh and amount of pollution gets reduce.

It is the need of the hour to clean our surroundings not only our homes but also the places use by us. Various (Several) measures should be taken to promote cleanliness in public places. Responsible waste management techniques should be adopted. Campaigns should be organised to make the surroundings hygienic. All these measures will keep us healthy. So, I appeal one and all to keep the surroundings clean and hygienic.

Clean India, healthy India.

 Q. Our streets are littered with paper bags, empty cans, fruit peelings and so many other used throwaways. Not only do our cities look unclean but lack of cleanliness can even lead to an outbreak of an epidemic. Write a speech in 100-150 words on ‘Clean India, Healthy India’, which you have to deliver in the morning assembly.

Respected principal, My worthy teachers and dear friends.

It is a matter of concern that despite an initiative of cleanliness taken by our prime minister, our streets are still littered with (filth and garbage, our public toilets stink, we use public walls as urinals and spittoons. Then we blame the government for mosquitoes, stench and epidemics.) full of garbage such as paper bags, empty cans, household wastes, poly bags etc without bothering to people. Today people are generating tons of waste everyday which is making the country dirty.

Is clean India really a healthy India ? Is there any relation between cleanliness and health ? Cleanliness is an indictior of sound health of natives of a country and so with India. Cleanliness in itself mean the absence of waste, dirt and germs. This makes India healthy. Cleanliness is considered as the first step towards healthy lifestyle. There are no illnesses in the state of cleanliness. People are less likely to get sick. They can keep various diseases such as malaria, dengue, chickengunya, asthma etc. at bay.

What's more, clean India produces no pollution, which gives fresh air to inhale to its citizens. They also get water fit for drinking. Cleanliness helps in the overall well being of individual, society and country. It spreads optimism attitude among people. It helps to relieves their stress, tensions and anxiety.  Cleanliness gives a pleasent look to India, which attracts foreign tourists to India, which inturn generates revenue for the Government.

It is the need of the hour that people should take some effective steps to make its environment clean. They should follow the 3R's i.e. reduce, reuse and recycle strategy of waste management. Besides this, afforestation should be encouraged among people to make India clean and healthy.

Stop Animal Abuse.

 Q. Cruelty towards animals is often heard and read about in the newspapers. It is unfair to be inhuman towards animals as they are helpless, poor creatures who can't even speak out their agony. Using the hints given below, prepare a speech to be delivered in the morning assembly on the topic- ‘Stop Animal Abuse’. (120-150 words)
Hints:
• Cats, dogs, horses, livestock animals are abused
• sensitivity towards animals required
• Take the needy animals to a vet/ inform concerned authorities
• Be kind towards animals
• Respect them
• Adopt stray animals
• spread awareness

Honorable Principal, Respected teachers and dear friends.

Animal abuse is a negative development that people are getting cruel to the animals. Millions of animals are being abused every day. People have become inhuman and forget that they are also the living creatures. They are continuously beaten, harrassed, multilated, dissected by people. For instance children irritated them by throwing stones on them. They are used in laboratories by children for the purpose of dissection to gain practical knowledge. Hundreds of frogs and lizards are experimented on regular basis.

What's more, People treat animals as a source of entertainment. They play various tricks on them for their fun. They domesticate or caged cats, dogs, parrots, cows, horses etc. for their own pleasure and abuse them. They are used in circuses and zoos and put into cages and are under-fed. They are forced to perform tricks which they cannot normally do. Then bulls, horses, camels, mules and donkeys are over-loaded. They play a vital role in our eco system and biodiversity as due to abusing some species are getting extinct. All these are creating imbalance in the environment. The whole food chain also get collapsed.

Getting cruel to animals is a negative development, people don't have any right to abuse animals. It should be made a punishable offence. Well-awakened persons, especially children or animal lovers, SPCA (Society for the Protection of cruelty to animals) should join hands to create worldwide awareness for animal abuse. It is our duty to respect animals. We must look after every animal like our own child and nourish it like him. NGOs should come forward to adopt stray animals. Let’s take pledge not to abuse animals in order to maintain balance in the environment.

Thank you.
