Speech on 'Superstitions and its ill effects on the society'

 Q. You were shocked to come across the news of killings of innocent people purely on superstitions and hearsays even in present days. Prepare a speech on the topic “Superstitions and its ill effects on society” to be delivered in the morning assembly of your school.

SUPERSTITIONS AND ITS ILL EFFECTS

Good Morning Respected principal, My worthy teachers and My dear friends. Today I stand before you to express my views on ‘ill effects of superstitions on society’.

Since long time, we have seen people believe in power of unseen forces but it has no natural, logical or scientific evidence of being true. It is unreasonable but still exist all over the world. The most common sources of superstition are the fear and ignorance. It is a blind faith and has no explanation. Each country has its own superstitions. For exemplifier, In greek, the elements of nature are worshipped as god but in the Indian tradition the god is worshipped in the form of statue. People also continue to worship the sun, moon, planets, stars, plants and so on believing that these things have power to influence their lives. All people even educated and highly qualified may believe in superstitions to some extent. Some people named it as evil eye, ghosts and many more. Even superstitions are related to animals also as such if a crow caws on a house top it is thought that guests may come. Some people believe if a cat crossing your path is a sign of bad luck.

India has long history of superstitions. For instance, someone sneezes during the time of departure, people consider it yo be unlucky. Similarly, the number 13 is considered unlucky. It is believed that we will do best in an examination if we have curd and sugar before leaving the house. If a person meets a priest in the morning, he fears bad luck may follow. On the other hand, if he meets a beggar, he feels the day will bring good luck. Some superstitions are even related to involuntary movements of body parts like itching on a female palm is considered as a sign of getting unexpected wealth. Twitching of a left eye lid of a man is considered ominous. Similarly in the case of an owl, the hooting of owl is a sign of bad happening as such the wailing of dog. People in all countries believe in ghosts, witches and black magic and its very common. Superstition is often blamed failures in day to day life. Education and common sense can destroy superstitions because superstitions are only the products of illiteracy. Here, knowledge and superstitions are inversely proportional.

If we look at it look closely, there is no logic behind the beliefs and practices of superstitions. And despite with the technological advancement and global reach of education, superstitions are gradually disappearing. But a lot remains to be done before superstitions are completely done  away otherwise each moment of our life will be on edge.

Thank you.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Respected teachers and my dear friends.

As we all know, due to busy lifestyle people even have no time to laugh or smile. Now a days, life is already full of problems at every phase and at every step of life. So, we must laugh. Once there was a professor of surgery who elevated this treatment and developed this as trend for mood elevation. It costs nothing. Laughter is nothing but a physical reaction in humans usually consisting of rhythm, often audible through whole body. It can arise from such activities as being funny or from humorous stories or thoughts.

The proverb “Laughter is the best medicine”. means that the laughter is the best way to recover. It often heals others around us or you when they are upset. So, we all must laugh daily. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed. Laughter boosts our immune system. It decreases the stress harmones and increases infection fighting antibodies. Surprisingly, but one study has found that laughing for 10-15 minutes a day can burn approximately 40 calories. It lightens the anger heavy loads. Nothing can diffuse our anger and conflict faster than a laugh or smile.

Moreover, A study in norway found that people who laugh as much may even help you to live longer particularly for those battling with cancer. It prevents all heart diseases from one's life. laughing the best exercise which adds joy and zest to life and improves mood.

Furthermore, It also strengthens the relationship with one another as by smiling we attract others to us. Laughing enhances teamwork as such the team can only be maintained and coordinated through laughing and it promotes group bonding. It helps us to keep a positive and optimistic  nature which helps us to fight with disappointments, losses and worries. So, one should always try to laugh and makes others to laugh.

                             By: Reetu Aggarwal

Being living in this environment, the physical, social and mental well being of a human life as a whole is very significant. Now a days the coronavirus pandemic has become a great (vast) topic in our community as well as nation. Some believe that wearing a mask is meaningless or even unsafe but this simple step can save their lives. It is critical to make them understand the role of this protective equipment as its main goal is to prevent them from the droplets of coughing and sneezing which can easily infect them but mask disrupts this infectious disease. Wearing a mask is about protecting your neighbours, friends, relative etc. specially from this air brone disease those are at high risk i.e. kids and old age people. It is important to wear it to slow down the spread of covid-19.

Some individuals have myths that mask adversely affect their breathing or air intake but it has been proven by various sources that masks will not decrease your oxygen levels. However, it will stop the pathogens to enter to your healthy body. So the universal use of mask can significantly reduce virus transmission in the community, including those who are carrying the virus for transmitting it to others. Moreover, don't wearing mask is increasing the cases of number of deaths on significant portions. Hence, wearing s mask is not a restriction of freedom while it is the protection from the society from illness.

Moving further, Rather than wearing a mask , social distancing is also considered as an important element to reduce the spreading of this pandemic. This situation has shown that even a distance of 6 feet can decrease the spread of this virus. As we all know the primary care workers are the first point of contact of the patients. They too are getting infected. The only way of infection control is social distancing which outbreaks the chain of spreading this corona virus pandemic. While going out in the public people comes in contact with others and spread happens from an infected person and can also be inhaled which directly affects their lungs. For not being sick, it is important to stay atleast 6 feet away from others possibly. So stay home and away from other people until it is safe to be around others. Always try to avoid being in contact with contaminated surfaces which is one of the best tool to avoid being in contact with contaminated surfaces which is one of the best tool to avoid being exposed to the virus.

                                By: Ritu Aggarwal

Now a days, coronavirus pandemic is one of the most deadly disease found in the world. It is a communicable disease and can cause a epidemic. And the change that take place in our lives due to this, is called as the new normal. It is a current situation that has not been experienced before. It has forced us to wear mask and maintain social distancing in our lives, which has an immense importance these days.

The first and the foremost importance is that it is very necessary now a days to prevent the spread and to fight against the current corona pandemic. Thus, it protect us and others to become the victim of this disease. That mask not only save us from viruses and germs but also protect us from other respiration problems and purify the air for us. Another is that, we can hide our bad or ugly faces (through masks) among people and thus, partiality and discrimination decreases. People also normally have to wear mask and maintain social distancing at their workplaces. Thus, they have no longer observed by anybody. Subsequently, It is easy to implement among the citizens of the country by the government under its supervision. Therefore, government trials to eradicate this disease become more effective.
Moreover, It will reduce the chances of lockdown in the country and acts as an alternative unless there is vaccine and cure. Efforts is minimal as compared to its benefits. It is the easiest and cheapest way to curtails the cases of coronavirus all over the world.

On the whole, The only biggest advantage of wearing mask (over social distancing) is that it is the best way to protect ourselves from this virus where hand washing and maintaining social distancing is not possible or difficult and acts as an effective way to reduce the number of people infected all over the world.
