E-WASTE MANAGEMENT

-By: Radha

In the era of technological advancements,  Electrical equipments plays an indispensable role in our life. Like any other waste, e waste has been generating due to its excess demand and use. E-waste, simply means the electronic products that are not useful anymore.

Now a days people are spending lavishly on purchasing electronics. People buy each and every electronic such as Laptop, computer, TV, smart phones, fax machines, electric lamps etc. rather the applications of all these are uniform. When their usage time span comes to an end. Therefore this e waste is thrown and cannot get disposed off in the soil and Underground, which causes land pollution by leaching lead in the soil and pollute groundwater. A recent survey has revealed that e waste has been increasing over the period of time due to increased urbanisation.

In order to reduce the generation of e-waste, Masses should be educated regarding reuse, refurbish, recycling of e-waste. Awareness should be spread among the public regarding e-waste management. Discarded computers, televisions, stereos, fax machines, electric lamps, cell phones, batteries etc. need to be properly disposed. Manufactures of electronic products should be informed about the government regulations regarding e-waste disposal. Instead of disposing this waste through door-to-door waste collectors, a separate collection centres have to be set-up by the government to ensure that waste has recycled and disposed off in an environment-friendly manner.

Thus, the problem of e-waste cannot be eradicated completely but can be solved through the contribution of individuals and government by its proper management through 3R's (Resuse, refurbish or recycle) method and building waste collection centres.

Respected Principal, Teachers and my dear friends !

Today I am here to speak on a sensitive issue : how to take care of pets from cracker-bursting sound during diwali..In the present era, nuisance and disturbances not only disturbs the human beings but also the pets.

First of all, we should try and comfort our pets by staying close to it. We need to accompany them during Diwali festival as they feel really insecure during these days. We need to be quite vigilant about their surroundings. We must make sure that they should remain at home at the time of bursting crackers. We should switch on the radio or TV to divert their attention and to camouflage noise of crackers so that they don't get harm or irritate. We should give special attention to smaller pets such as birds and rabbits. We can feed them early and cover with a dark cloth so that they sleep. We should make our endeavour to fall them asleep. If they are not able to get peaceful or restful sleep, we should provide them sedatives.

Apart from it, the next morning we see the streets full of crackers waste. we should dispose of the residual of crackers very carefully. We should not allow them to roam along the streets. These should not be access by street animals. Rather it should be clean by sweepers. Pets should be sent to animal care units during Diwali days.

We should be very careful while bursting crackers. We should consider our pets as our family member. So, we should be compassionate towards them during Diwali days so that they do not met any injury. Unluckily, if any injury arise injured animal should taken to vet immediately.

Thank you.
